Fiji Fashion Week has quickly become one of the prestige events on the Fijian Calendar and follows a global trend of these types of festivals which showcase both established and up-and-coming fashion designers.
Fiji Fashion Week offers excellent business networking opportunities for designers, buyers, retailers and models alike plus the chance for the fashion-loving public to get a glimpse of what's in store for the New Year. For Fiji and the Pacific at large, this offers a wonderful opportunity to profile the vibrant colourful and sophisticated side of Fiji to the world.
The last Fiji Fashion Week held 3-6 December 2009 in Suva has been an even greater success than last year and IMODE is proud to have been able, t hanks to Fiji Fashion Week Ltd (FFW) to have been able to bring our readers live coverage of this event.
FFW was formed to develop Fiji Fashion Week into a major event to help to secure a place on the world stage for the growing Fijian fashion industry and certainly their offerings this year lived up to that aim.
FFW introduced a series of workshops thoughout 2009 and now plans are in place to introduce Fiji's first Fashion design course into TPAF in January 2010. They are working closely with the Ministry of Education to introduce fashion design into the school curriculum. In conjunction with TVET, plans are also underway for a school's mini fashion week. We look forward to bringing you more about that as it develops.
Watch out for the February Edition of IMODE with interviews with some of the top designers from the region and some fantastic images from Fiji Fashion Week 2009.
